Welcome! I’m Alie, and I’m a polar geoscientist and current Knauss Marine Policy Fellow with NOAA.

I’m broadly interested in intersections: geological processes that happen at the intersection of glaciers and the earth over which they flow; the intersection of thought practices towards knowledge co-production; how the intersection of one’s identities shapes their experience in polar research and STEM; and climate resilience, which lies at the intersection of applied science, community needs, and federal policies.

I currently work in NOAA’s Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing Program and Arctic Research Program, where I write stories about the science we support, develop communications products for audiences from Congress to K-12 students, and collaborate across NOAA and with other agencies on Arctic research initiatives.

Read about my research that uses marine sediments to explore dynamics of water under glaciers and ice sheets through time here.

Curious about marine-based field work in the Antarctic? Check out this Instagram Q&A to learn something new (or just enjoy some pictures of penguins)!

In my spare time, you can find me at a concert or a record shop, escaping the city for long walks in the woods, baking sourdough for friends, on my yoga mat, or trying to be less bad at the mandolin.

I am always interested in new collaborations, outreach opportunities, and scientific discussion.
